Il Presidente degli Stati Uniti e il primo ministro del Regno Unito vorrebbero fare una guerra. Ma non tutti sono d'accordo che la guerra è una cosa buona. Il generale degli Stati Uniti, Miller, non pensa così e nemmeno il segretario di Stato britannico per lo Sviluppo Internazionale, Simon Foster. Ma, dopo che accidentalmente, Simon sostiene l'azione militare in TV, improvvisamente ha un sacco di amici a Washington, DC. Se Simon può contattare le persone giuste di DC, se il suo entourage composto da una persona può dormire con la persona giusta, e se sia possibile interrompere il capo del Primo Ministro, il dottor Malcolm Tucker, nel manovrare il voto alle Nazioni Unite, potranno fermare la guerra. Political satire is a bitch to pull off. Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove set the bar high in 1964. But damned if In the Loop doesn't at least nip at its skirts. Best of all, this ink-black comedy of war and how to stop worrying and love the spin is devilishly clever. Comme on s'en souvient peut-être, le Royaume-Uni s'est rangé aux côtés des Etats-Unis lors de l'intervention américaine en Irak. Il n'y a pas de quoi rire, et pourtant le processus qui a mené à cette décision fournit, six ans plus tard, la matière d'une excellente comédie politique. L'Irak n'est jamais mentionné tout au long d'In the Loop, mais on voit très bien de quoi il retourne.
AUDIENCES should not expect “In the Loop” to be bursting with uplifting moral lessons. “There are very few redeeming characters in it,” the film’s creator and director, the British writer Armando Iannucci, said recently. “I didn’t want to be thinking, ‘Oh, we have to have a happy ending or a song or something.’ ” He is not kidding about the ending (or the song).
Despite a pedigree like so many British prestige projects -- award-winning actors and writers, topical subject matter, BBC roots -- "In the Loop" is no precious show dog.
