Dennis, un ragazzo come tanti, sovrappeso e fumatore, cinque anni fa ha commesso l'errore più grande della sua vita, lasciando sull'altare la su fidanzata Libby, che, oltretutto era in attesa del loro figlio. Da quel momento in poi, non è passato giorno senza che Dennis abbia chiesto a Libby di accettarlo nuovamente, ma nonostante il ragazzo sia un ottimo padre per il piccolo Jake, Libby non ne ha mai voluto sapere. Quando Dennis scopre che nella vita di Libby c'è un altro uomo, si mette subito in competizione con lui e per dimostrare alla madre di suo figlio che è cambiato rispetto a cinque anni prima, ed è perfettamente in grado di portare a termine qualcosa nella sua vita, decide di dimostrarglielo partecipando alla maratona di Londra per cercare di vincerla.
Cinque anni fa Dennis ha abbandonato la sua fidanzata Libby sull'altare. Da allora, ogni giorno implora Libby di accettarlo nuovamente. Quando scopre che Libby frequenta un altro uomo decide di dimostrarle che è in grado di portare a termine qualcosa nella sua vita e si iscrive alla maratona di Londra.

Sometimes, Simon Pegg betrays too much suppleness, physically and otherwise, to convince you that he's packing a paunch as Dennis the lovelorn, chain-smoking slacker in "Run, Fat Boy, Run." Why in hell is queens-born David Schwimmer making his directing debut with a British farce? Damned if I know. But the Friends star has a welcome eye for laughs that sneak in around familiar corners. It's also a big comic boost that Simon Pegg, the offbeat star of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, plays Dennis, a security guard in a lingerie shop.
