Harry Ross, vecchio e un po' prostatico detective privato, si occupa di un suo amico attore, malato di cancro, sottoposto a ricatto con la moglie irrequieta. L'indagine fa uscire molti scheletri dall'armadio insieme a più di un morto ammazzato. Scritto dal regista con Richard Russo, è un malinconico film che cerca di recuperare temi e atmosfere del cinema noir del ventennio 1949-59. Diretto e recitato con competenza, ma “come altri esercizi di genere di R. Benton, è l'opera di un fan piuttosto che di un vero artigiano” (Bob Baker). Uscito in cassetta e alla TV. |
