Tratto dal romanzo di Michael Downing, il film racconta la convivenza di una coppia gay: Eric è un ex giocatore di hockey diventato cronista sportivo mentre Sam è un avvocato. La fidanzata di Billy, il fratello di Sam, muore per overdose, e Billy per non ricevere in affidamento il bambino scappa in Sud Africa.
