Stumbling Toward Bollywood

AS studio chiefs are wont to do, Jim Gianopulos, co-chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, decided to do some schmoozing during a commercial break at this year’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony. The target of his table hopping, however, was not Leonardo DiCaprio or Tom Cruise, to whom he merely waved as strode across the opulent ballroom at the Beverly Hilton back in January. No, he was making a beeline for Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar, two of Bollywood’s most influential players.
Mr. Gianopulos’s gesture captures the courtship dance currently being conducted between Hollywood and its Mumbai counterpart. [...]
