The man and woman meet at a sunshiny garden party at the American Embassy in Dubai. They are both tall, intelligent, equipped. Julia Roberts is Claire Stenwick, an operative for the C.I.A. She arrives in state: heels, a print dress, cleavage, her hair in a French twist. Clive Owen is Ray Koval, an MI6 agent. The dark stubble of Owen's earlier movies is gone; he wears a suit and tie.
