In Noah Baumbach’s “Margot at the Wedding,” a face is slapped, some punches and kicks are thrown and a gracious old shade tree is subjected to assault by chain saw. It all sounds pretty tame compared with what you might encounter on neighboring screens at the multiplex. This is, as my colleague Caryn James pointed out in a recent essay, a notably bloody season at the movies. So if you are interested in gore and gunplay, you can seek out “Saw IV” or “No Country for Old Men.” When it comes to emotional violence, however, “Margot at the Wedding” is hard to beat. [...]
