Passato completamente inosservato in Italia, mentre è stato un autentico successone negli States: c'è da chiedersi come sia stato possibile nonostante Sandra Bullock (fantastica!) abbia vinto l'Oscar come miglior attrice protagonista, tra l'altro a poche ore dall'aver vinto un Razzie come peggior attrice per "A proposito di Steve"!  Tratto da un romanzo è l'ennesimo ma ben fatto film sull'american dream che si avvera, che celebra con fierezza continua »

La Warner Bros Pictures ha fatto uscire il trailer del film The Blind Side basato sul libro di Michael Lewis, The Blind Side: Evolution of the Game, che racconta la vita di Michael Oher, che quest'anno è stato draftato dalla squadra di football americano The Baltimore Ravens nel primo turno degli NFL Draft. Un povero e non istruito adolescente afro-americano di 156 chili di Menphis, il cui padre è stato ucciso e la cui madre è una tossicodipendente, viene inserito nel sistema scolastico pubblico nonostante i suoi voti bassi e l'assenteismo.

Streamrolling Over Life’s Ostacles With Family as Cheerleaders

One of the many turning points in “The Blind Side” — a movie made up almost entirely of turning points and yet curiously devoid of drama or suspense — comes during a Memphis high school football game. Michael Oher, the offensive tackle whose remarkable life is the subject of the film (and of the nonfiction best seller on which it is based), is having trouble protecting his quarterback. An especially obnoxious player on the opposing team taunts Michael and evades his blocks down after down. But finally Michael snaps into focus and, on a climactically important play, grabs hold of the guy and steamrolls him all the way down the field, dumping him into the stands as the crowd (in the stadium and also, most likely, in the movie theater) cheers. »

That, in a nutshell, is the plot of “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire,” which has attracted fervent praise, as well as some controversy, since its debut in limited release two weeks ago. The same sentence could sum up “The Blind Side,” based on a nonfiction book by Michael Lewis, which opened nationally on Friday. Michael Oher (sometimes called Big Mike), the young black man whose fate drives “The Blind Side,” is in many ways a male, Southern counterpart to Claireece Jones (usually called Precious), the Harlem 16-year-old whose struggle animates “Precious. »

Citizen Wells as Myth in the Making

RICHARD LINKLATER is keen to point out that his new film, “Me and Orson Welles,” is not a biopic. For starters, he said in a recent phone interview: “Biopics are the lamest genre. No one should attempt them anymore.” What’s more, when it comes to a figure as protean and elusive as Welles, there are obvious complicating factors. Welles was not only a habitual fabulist — “the most unreliable narrator of his own life,” Mr. Linklater said — but also an outsize subject for the projections of others. »

Sandra Bullock and newcomer Quinton Aaron have a warm and winning chemistry in director John Lee Hancock's fact-based story of a football-loving white family's adoption of a homeless black teen.

Watching "The Blind Side" is like watching your favorite football team; you'll cheer when things go well, curse when they don't, and be reminded that in football, as in life, it's how you play the game that counts -- though winning doesn't hurt, either. I'm talking to the jocks here. The rest of you can just bring Kleenex and give in to this quintessentially old-style story that is high on hope, low on cynicism and long on heart.
